A New Calling - A New Challenge

Our second week in the ward, the Bishop called us into his office for a "get-to-know-you" chat. As we were leaving he asked, "Do you guys have any preferences in callings?" We assured him that we would be happy to serve wherever we were needed and we left it at that. So this Sunday, we get another interview where we received our new callings. Luke got called to be the..... (drum roll, please) NURSERY LEADER!! I had to laugh, I couldn't believe it! (Luke is very excited about it by the way). He just looks at me and said, "I wouldn't laugh - you don't know what your calling is yet." I was just thinking, "Yea, but it couldn't be harder than a nursery leader, right?" Wrong. I am the new Boy Scout Den Mother!! I'm feeling so out of my element. I'm sure in a few years I will look back on this calling with fond memories and be so glad that I was called, but for now - I'm just trying to breathe as I flop around like a fish out of water. (Now for all of you guys out there reading this and thinking, "It's boy scouts - what's the big deal?" Imagine you just got called to be the new Beehive Teacher. And this week's lesson is on chastity. See what I mean?!)

Wow! Good luck with that! I will pray for you. :) hehe. You'll be so good at it though. And besides, it'll be a nice way to spend some time with young boys instead of your young daughters right...?

Luke, you'll love it. It's snack and play time at church. Ashley it will be a little challenging. Lots to learn about the strange games, chants, hand shakes and rules that the scouts have. I don't remember many of them but it was hard when I was Jarvis's den mother with 9 or 10 other wild boys. I guess we all have to take our turn. Instead of pink bows and pretty coloring, it will be bugs, pinewood derby cars, corny riddles, etc. Good luck. Luke help with the girls while Ashley is doing the boy stuff.
Love, Mom

By the way, we now have a blog spot for Dance Tech so you may want to add it too your favorite blogs. It is dancetechstudio.blogspot.com/ Also I need Ashley to fly back here to decorate the new studio. It's shiny and new but needs some decorating. Put it on your busy schedule, and bring Luke and the girls when you come so we can see them too :) We sure miss you guys!

Rick and I laughed and shook our heads in sympathy at the same time for you both when we read this. Wow, they sure got you guys in some interesting places real fast in that ward! You'll both be great though and the boys and the kids will be in awe of you two, you'll do great! We can't wait to see you!

First of all, you are a hillarious writer Ash. Congrats to both of you on your new callings. I would be scared too. In fact, I even got called as den mother once but then it didn't work out because my work schedule changed and got in the way (I swear I didn't do it on purpose!) Good luck! You will both do awesome!

We are in nursery right now and it is great fun, seriously, snack and play time at church. one tip - get a bubble blowing machine. even if out of your own pocket. No music leader today? No problem!

Ha ha, that's hilarious. But sorry, I don't feel too bad for ya cuz I'm the Primary Chorister and have the program coming up in a few weeks and we don't know the songs very well, plus your good at anything so I'm sure it will be fine. Besides, mom is in that same field so ask her any questions.
