Random Acts of Niceness

While this summer so far has been mostly awesome, there have been a few... um..... challenging days as well.

I know, I know.
My kids are sweet little cherubic angels and you cannot fathom them ever saying or doing a mean thing in their lives because they are without exception the most thoughtful and charitable little angels on the planet.

Uh. Huh.  Yep.  Alright.

On one particularly challenging day this summer I awoke to the sounds of shouting, door slamming, spirited sobbing, dog barking, and piano pounding.  And I was DONE.  You know it's going to be a rough day when you are out of patience before your feet hit the carpet, and I knew this day was going south.  Fast.

So, I then and there decided that the day would be spent doing nothing but nice things for each other and surprisingly the kids totally embraced my idea.  (After a nice little time-out for waking the bear.)

We drew names (Brooklyn and Aubrey got each other and Cameron and I got each other) and got to work.
Aubrey set up a string maze that went through the entire house and ended with a little prize, she made Brooklyn's bed, left a note on her pillow, set her a special place at dinner, gave her $1.27 in change, and treated her like a queen.
Brooklyn gave Aubrey a toy she had, did her chore for her, and left her little surprises around the house.
Cameron (Luke) wrote me a note on the chalkboard, cleaned his room, and made an effort to give me about 93 hugs throughout the day.
And I set up a book maze in the driveway, played Legos and trains with him, gave him a new lighty swirly helicopterish toy, and squeezed his tushy whenever he walked by.  (Cause he loves that.)

And our day turned out to be a pretty great one.
