Father-Son vs. Mother-Daughter

Here's what happened at the Mother-Daughter Luau:

-We arrived in festive grass skirts and leis for a night of swimming, gourmet food, a Hawaiian photo-booth, fire-side chatting, hoola-hooping, and hoola dancing.

 

It was a magical night.

 

Here's what happened at the Father-Son Camp-Out:

-Luke forgot to bring Cameon's jacket so Cameron bummed around in his footie pajamas all night.

-Cameron refused to try a single bite of his foil dinner so he had s'mores and "a few handfuls of the bishop's Doritos" for his meal.

- Cameron was having a "Fix-It-Felix" Phase and demanded to wear his Felix get-up (even while sleeping.)

It was a magical night.

School's Out For the SUMMMA!

No more school and we couldn't be happier about it.

The last week was a whirlwind (and being the room mom, I was all up in it.)  The fun included a trip to the LA Zoo with Brooklyn's class, Aubrey singing in the microphone at graduation, a water day, a little brother who couldn't be happier about being towed along, and a looming summer vacation that will possibly be the best one in history.

Oh, By the Way...

 Life lately has been a jumble.  A big, fun, jumble of seconds and minutes and hours and days.

Basically, I feel like life is just a constant collage of fun times and memories.

So, here are our lives lately in 2x2 inch squares.  

Soccer season came and went.  Brooklyn flourished this year and even scored her very first goal (which you can clearly see was an actual, real-life, goal even if the referee did not agree.  It's a goal in our book.)  Aubrey scored around 16 goals this season, but in her defense, her BFF was on her team, so she was a little distracted.  ;)

 I got to accompany Aubrey (and her BFF) on a field trip to the Long Beach Aquarium where we touched sharks, jellyfish, and many other unnamed squishy marine somethings + played with penguins + had the greatest day.

We had visitors + they are the coolest + I hardly took any pictures, but we had so. much. fun. with them and we missed them the second they left.

 One day we totally ditched school and hiked ourselves out to Los Angeles for a day of museum therapy.  We met an octopus, fist-bumped a scuba diver, witnessed the spaceshuttle Exposition in all it's glory, and even made grandma tag along for the ride.

Mother's Day happened.  I got to talk to my brothers on their missions + had a tea party at Aubrey's school where they sang us the cutest songs + got spoiled by Hershey kiss rings and hand-made presents (the very best kind).

 Cameron started gymnastics and is like a kid in a candy store on Christmas eve.  He's obsessed.  + We spent the weekend in OC for Memorial Day and all 3 kids got sick + We went back to the farm + Cameron got shots and yelled at the sweet nurse, and I quote: "Why'd you do that?!?!  You are a STINKER!!!... And not a nice stinker!!!!"  + Luke and I had date night at the temple where everything that could possibly go wrong did.  But we had fun anyways.  + I hand-made the girls' dolls Frozen outfits + We are melting in the heat and spent Saturday in waterballoon ambushes, wet trampoline wrestling matches, and being assaulted by Cameron's deadly weapon. + 7 days till summer!
Bring it on.

Will the Real Cameron Webb Please Stand Up?

This boy.

If he is not curled up in my lap reading a book about trucks, he is off ranting and railing at his sister's minor infractions.  If he's not lining his Hot Wheels up in an immaculately straight line, then he's demanding an apology over the slightest infringement from whoever happens to be his unlucky victim. 

He is sugar and spice, this little one.

He has perfected the art of what we affectionately refer to as "the stink eye" and has developed a recent habit of tattling on anyone who crosses his path, whether friend or foe, child or adult, innocent or guilty.

He is my brave and valiant protector from his fierce tiger-sisters, and much to our dismay has lately added the phrase, "no, we're not" to his vocabulary.  

-"Cameron, we're out of chocolate milk." 

-"No, we're not."  

-"Cameron, we're not watching Cars right now, we're getting ready for bed."  

-"No, we're not." 

 "Cameron, we have to get your shoes on 'cause we're going to church."

-"NO, WE'RE NOT!!!"

He is some days a ticking time bomb - ready to explode at the slightest touch and sometimes a wide-eyed, messy-haired, dirty-nosed little prince in Chucks.

He is capable of unleashing fury that rivals the Greek gods, and yet he is also the sweetest, cutest, most thoughtful and affectionate kid in the world.

And boy, we love him so.

Blessed

 Tonight we spent the evening with the windows open, our feet bare, and our hair down.  

One child begged Luke to jump with him.  

One child threw down wrestling moves like the WWF.  

One child collected leaves for a bird's nest.  

And one mom felt incredibly, undeniably, overwhelminly...

blessed.

Brace Yourself

 This week, I got braces.  

For the first few days I was wallowing in self pity, eating baby food, using pliers to get 2 day old pizza out of my teeth, and devising plans for how I could survive a year without ever showing my face in public.

And then I realized that that is impossible and I'm just going to have to live with my hideous self for a year and use this opportunity for another edition of

CELEBRITY LOOK-ALIKE

I could not decide between all of these stunning ladies, so I just went for them all.

Brace yourself.

First up, is the vivacious Drew Barrymore from Never Been Kissed.

 In a close second, is Katy Perry 

(She's got the eye mouth of a tiger, and you're gonna hear her ROoOoOoAR.)

 Next, is the alluring Sue Sue Heck from "The Middle".

(Yes, her name is Sue Sue.  That is not a typo.  And now I know that you don't watch "The Middle" and you need to repent and go watch an episode right now.  She is the most talented actress on TV.  Hands down.)

And last is Darla the Fish Slayer from "Finding Nemo."

At least I'm in good company...

Dr. Seuss Easter - Season 6

Our Dr. Seuss Easter started six years ago

 (2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009), 

But I think it's still pretty fun, so you know.

So, this Easter, of course, gets it's very own post

Out of all of our Easters, I like this one the most.

Our Easter did not go according to plan

In fact, Easter morning started off in our van.

We drove 15 hundred miles in the span of 3 days

And woke up with the rooster to avoid all delays.

We made it in time for a morning of church

Then to Grandma's house for an Easter egg search!

 

We didn't have a camera and it went by so quick

But the kids were excited about the wind-up cute chick

Aunt Brittany came through with more candy and toys

And then we popped bubbles and made lots of noise.

The kids all got goggles, which we needed quite bad

Plus bags full of candy - of course, I aint mad!

 

Next, over the hills to the "Greats" we did head

For potatoes and roast and Grandma's warm bread.

Then more Easter eggs were out on their big lawn

And we hunted and searched till they too were all gone.

 

And then, just like always, the sun started to fade

So we hugged and we kissed and good-byes were all made

 

Then we drove to our house thinking, "Wow - what a day!"

And we gathered our children and knelt down to pray.

We thanked Heavenly Father for the gift of His son

How we're grateful for Jesus - God's true, chosen One.

And we thought about death and how now it's okay

Because we can be all together, someday.
