I Almost Got Murdered Today.

Seriously.

This morning dawned bright and beautiful and before I had even stepped out of bed, my camera was calling my name. (And so were two hungry little girls.) I've been taking a little photography class and the homework assignment that is due tomorrow has (as usual) been put off until the last possible minute.
So as soon as breakfast had been served, we headed out to a sweet little park near our house. It has trees, grass, flowers, a meadow, and a trail. Perfect.

We parked at the start of the trail and got right to work. I dragged my poor children through the woods across a stream, through trees, over stumps, around fallen logs and into the middle of a tiny meadow. It took about 2 minutes before Brooklyn was begging me to leave.
"Mommy, lets go."
"Mom, we should leave."
"Mom, can we be done now, please?"
My homework assignment was not yet completed to my satisfaction, so (like I do best) I ignored it all.
The scary feelings, the pleadings, all of it.
And then Aubrey said, "I gotta go potty."
That one I don't ignore.

So we hastily clawed our way out of the forest and continued on the path about 1/4 mile up to the park. Aubrey did her thing, we played around for a quick second and when we exited the premises, there was a lovely little surprise. Cops. Everywhere.
Why?, you ask.
Oh, please, let me tell you.
Turns out, there was a man wandering around in the woods (the very woods that we emerged from not 5 minutes earlier!) with a gun and a baseball bat.
A baseball bat.
A baseball bat!!

There are only 2 reasons you bring a baseball bat on a hike:
1.) You are a vampire.
2.) You are up to no good.
Either way, I don't want to be in the woods with you.
He jumped in his car and ran away before the cops could catch him.
And that was our morning...

At least I got some good pictures out of the deal.

(On a completely unrelated note, I was so excited to "meet" some of my "blog stalkers"!! I am seriously flattered that you are interested in our lives and you are welcome on this blog for as long as I continue to post. Which will hopefully be a long time - as long as I stay out of the woods.)

Does anyone else find it odd that of the two, a gun and a baseball bat, my wife was more scared about the latter? Pretty sure I'd be freaking out about the gun, but maybe it's me. Glad you're ok sweetie :)

Okay, so I'm a little slower than the others, but yes Luke I agree. When I read this post, the gun part scared me a little more than the bat. You crack me up.

that is really scary and I have to agree with Luke and Amy on the gun part. I love the parks around here but they really scare me to go in some of them without my husband. Glad you are okay.

guns are way scarier than baseball bats. baseball bats can hit balls and score homeruns. guns just kill. but i agree, ash.. those pictures are awesome. you are really really talented. :)
